Hamaderakoen St. is a small station, but there used to be a bathing beach nearby and it was very crowded with tourists. At Hamadera Park, which used to be a sandy beach at that time, you can see a beautiful pine forest and feel the atmosphere of the past. The old station building can be seen from the front, which gives it a beautiful retro look. The interior is filled with the elegant atmosphere of the first-class waiting room, with chandeliers and wall-mounted fireplaces, and you can feel the elegance of the past as if you have slipped back in time.

Description

This station building is said to be the oldest private railway station building in Japan, which was rebuilt in 1907 by the architectural office of Tatsuno Kingo, the designer of famous buildings such as Tokyo Station, after Hamaderakoen Station opened in 1897. increase. along with the neighboring Suwanomori Station building, it became the first property of a major private railway company to be registered as a National Tangible Cultural Property. Hamadera Park, from which the station derives its name, was designated as a park in 1873 and is the oldest park in Osaka. In 1906, development of the area as a resort town progressed with the construction of a beach and the building of upper-class villas, and the station building served as its gateway. It features a left-right symmetrical plane configuration and a stylish design with highlights such as dormer windows on the roof and pillars shaped like sake bottles at the entrance. The interior was adorned with luxurious chandeliers and fireplaces, and a portion of it was used as a first-class waiting room at the time. It is currently not in use as a station building, but it is still popular for the cafe, gallery, and multipurpose space that occupy the building today.
